Allegations on CBI for deliberate weak-handling at Delhi High Court of Shashinath Jha murder case leading to acquittal of JMM supremo Shibu Soren and his associates, by family-members are serious. Even the bench giving the verdict remarked that CBI lawyers had not been doing their home-work properly for presenting the case. Frequent change of lawyers by CBI added to theory of weak-handling of the case. Earlier also, allegations and strictures have been passed against CBI for being ‘His Masters Voice’ of political rulers at the centre. Even Shibu Soren is an important ally of ruling UPA government. A fair system should be evolved by making CBI to be fully autonomous by selecting its head by unanimity between Prime Minister and opposition Leader in the manner CVC is selected.
Victim’s family should have a choice to select lawyer for CBI from a panel of given names. Permission to get nod from Union Law Ministry for CBI filing appeals should not be necessary because such permission is deliberately delayed in politically sensitive cases to favour of political rulers, like was delayed in disproportionate-asset case of Union Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav or in Bofors case.
